Equine Massage for Owners

Massage is an amazing thing, it can help keep your horse comfortable, improve bond between you and your horse, help to prepare for exercise and so much more. In these courses we will look into anatomy, assess your horse, learn massage techniques and programs for different situations, such as pre and post ride massage regime, between physio sessions and competitions. 

Disclaimer: This is a course for owners to learn massage for their own horse, not to be a qualified physio or massage therapist.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Identify the major muscle groups of the horse.

  • Understand the why and what of massage.

  • Evaluate your horses and current muscle development.

  • Recognise signs of muscle soreness and tension. 

  • Have the skills to massage your horse with Effleutage, Petrissage and Tapoment.

  • Learn massage routines for maintenance, before and after riding and warming up.

Module 1

This module will aim to give you a foundation of knowledge of anatomy, the whys and whats of massage

  • Key Topics:​

    • Major Muscle Groups: Identification and function of the Chain Muscles. 

    • The role of facia and why it is important to keep healthy.

Module 2

Massage techniques that you can take home and use straight away with your horse to help them keep supple.

  • Key Topics:​​

    • Introduction of message techniques.

    • Tips and tricks to help you master them.

Module 3

Learn to catch discomfort before it gets severe and when you need to get an expert help.

  • Key Topics:​​

    • How to assess your horse for tight and tender areas: When do you need to get a physio out.
